Tribeca's 2010 Lineup Announced

The Tribeca Film Festival is apparently treated like a tester for Cannes, which comes after and across the water. The Fest is in its ninth year, having been founded in 2001 by Robert DeNiro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff in an effort to revitalize lower Manhattan post-9/11.

The fest opens with the 3D world premiere of 'Shrek Forever After.' (Yes. A fourth one. And in 3D--but, I ain't gon' lie, I like this franchise.)

I'm moved by the following, so far--no surprises--they're mostly docs with lots of getWOKE! specials in betwixt and between:
Special Events
Documentary portrait of former NY Governor Eliot Spitzer. MUY interesante.

A work-in-progress screening of 'The Western Front.' A Marine, Zachary Iscol, who fought in Iraq's Al-Anbar province returns to the scene of the battle in the documentary feature.

World Documentary Feature

'Earth Made of Glass', directed by Deborah Scranton. An investigative documentary weaving interviews with President Kagame of Rwanda and Jean-Pierre Sagahutu, a survivor of the 1994 genocide.

'Feathered Cocaine,' directed by Thorkell Hardarsson and Orn Marino Arnarson. Falcon smuggling.

Showcase Category
'Lola,' directed by Brillante Mendoza, written by Linda Casimiro. Two elderly matriarchs bear the consequences of a crime involving their grandsons.

'Moloch Tropical,' directed by Raoul Peck, written by Peck and Jean-Rene Lemoine. (Haiti, France) Haitian auteur Raoul Peck reflects on absolute power corrupting absolutely. Read a review over at Shadow & Act.
